1. General Information
Blood Donor Rewards is a brand-new program for all Red Cross blood, platelet and plasma donors. It’s our way of saying thanks for helping save lives with your donation. Now when you come to donate, you’ll earn points that can be exchanged for exclusive rewards.
The Red Cross reserves the right to update the Blood Donor Rewards program at any time and without notice.
2. Eligibility & Enrollment
If you’ve come to donate at a blood drive or donation center and completed the health history part of the donation process starting January 1, 2024, you’re already enrolled and earning points! While you don’t need to make a successful donation to start earning points, you will need to complete the health history portion of your donation. Health history is completed once you speak with a Red Cross phlebotomist, answer health questions and have your blood pressure and hemoglobin checked to confirm you are healthy enough to donate.
You don’t need to take any additional action beyond presenting to donate to join, but you will need an account on RedCrossBlood.org or the Blood Donor App to view your points and redeem your rewards.
There is no fee to join the Blood Donor Rewards program. Only one membership per donor is allowed, and only individuals (not businesses or groups) can have a membership. Points and rewards are non-transferrable and not redeemable for cash.
3. Donor Rewards Account
All of your rewards information is available in your Red Cross online donor account. All you have to do is log in to your RedCrossBlood.org account or log in to the Blood Donor App to view your point balance, redeem rewards, and view your point earning and reward redemption history.
If you don’t have an account yet, you can get started at RedCrossBlood.org, select sign in from the top menu, and click create an account. You can also download the Blood Donor App to your smartphone.
4. Point Earning
Beginning January 1, 2024, donors will earn points for donating blood, Power Red, platelet, and AB Elite plasma only donation attempts. To earn points, you must go to a blood drive or donation center to donate and complete the health history portion of your donation. Health history is completed once you speak with a Red Cross phlebotomist, answer health questions and have your blood pressure and hemoglobin checked.
The power is yours. The more you donate, the more you earn, and the better the rewards. Let’s not forget the more lives you can help save!
You can find your points by logging into your online donor account at RedCrossBlood.org, or logging into the Blood Donor App. Once you start earning points, you will see your balance within seven days of your donation.
Total points awarded for a donation attempt include a base point amount and any applicable bonuses:
Each Donation: 100 base points
Power Red: 100 bonus points
AB Elite Plasma Only: 100 bonus points
Platelets: 100 bonus points
The number of times you can earn points is based on how many times you can safely donate blood, platelets, or plasma in a 12-month period.
This means that within a rolling 365-day period, you can earn points up to three (3) times for Power Red donation attempts, six (6) times for whole blood donation attempts, thirteen (13) times for AB Elite plasma only donation attempts and twenty-four (24) times for platelet donation attempts. This limitation is for both completed donations and donation attempts that were deferred during health history. We may also offer additional point earning opportunities. Throughout the year, you may see bonuses for certain time periods (including holidays), blood types in high demand, and certain procedures. These opportunities may be listed on the Red Cross website, social media sites, or other promotional blood donor materials. Please note that we may change the point values at any time.
Points and rewards are non-transferrable and not redeemable for cash.
5. Point History & Expiration
The “Point Earning History” section of your custom Donor Rewards page will show the history of when you’ve earned each set of points. You can get to your custom Donor Rewards page by logging into your online donor account at RedCrossBlood.org, or logging into the Blood Donor App and clicking “See Rewards.”
Please note the date the points are awarded, and the dates within this section may reflect the date your donation record was processed and not the date you donated. For example, you may have come to give on Jan. 1, but your account may show you earned the points on Jan. 7, when your donation record was fully processed.
Points expire 12 months after the last day of the month in which they are earned. For example, if you’ve earned points on Jan. 1, 2024, they will expire on Jan. 31, 2025. Points set to expire, as well as a history of points that have already expired can be found by logging into your online donor account at RedCrossBlood.org, or logging into the Blood Donor App.
6. Reward Eligibility
You can use your points to redeem up to ten (10) $10 e-gift cards to the merchant(s) of your choice within a 365-day period. In addition to e-gift card redemptions, you may also save points to redeem one exclusive American Red Cross branded merchandise item when the store is open for a limited time in January 2025.
To see all your available rewards and redeem points, log into your donor account at RedCrossBlood.org or on the Blood Donor App. Available rewards may not be the same for every donor, as their point costs may vary. Bonus opportunities allow donors access to rewards with a higher point cost. However, they may vary from donor to donor as they can be based on procedure types, specific demand for blood types, and more. Trying a new procedure can be a great way to earn more points for more exclusive rewards.
You may also see some rewards promoted within emails, mailers, website and other materials that are not currently available within your account, especially if you’ve been invited to try a new procedure. The rewards available to you may change as you continue to come donate. Rewards are subject to change, and physical rewards are available on a first come, first served basis, while supplies last. You may be notified of the store opening through emails from the Red Cross, social media, or other communication channels.
7. Reward Redemption
To redeem rewards, log into your donor profile on RedCrossBlood.org, or the Blood Donor App. Your rewards and their points value will be visible in your donor profile. Once you click the reward you want, you can see if you have enough points to claim it. If you don’t have enough points yet, you’ll be able to see how many more points you will need to claim that specific reward.
E-gift cards and physical items are non-returnable. If you have redeemed points for an item by mistake, please contact Customer Care at https://www.redcrossblood.org/contact-us.html, or call 1-800-733-2767.
8. E-Gift Cards
You can redeem up to ten (10) $10 e-gift cards within a 365-day period. Each $10 e-gift card will cost 500 points. Once you redeem an e-gift card, it will be sent to your email address within 48 hours. This email will include the date of expiration for the e-gift card. Once an e-gift card expires, it cannot be reissued. You must have a valid email address in your blood donor account to receive your e-gift card redemption email. Please allow up to 48 hours for your gift card redemption email to arrive. Please also be sure to check your SPAM folder. If you haven’t received it within 48 hours, please contact Customer Care at https://www.redcrossblood.org/contact-us.html or call 1-800-733-2767.
All gift cards are subject to individual merchant terms and conditions, and all trademarks are property of their respective owners. Merchants and offers are subject to change. No substitutions by presenting donors. American Red Cross is not responsible for lost, damaged, corrupted or stolen gift cards and may replace any such cards at its sole discretion. Gift cards are non-transferable and not redeemable for cash. Any questions or problems in connection with redeeming gift cards must be directed to the merchant.
9. American Red Cross Merchandise Items
You can also save points to redeem one (1) American Red Cross branded merchandise item when the store is open for a limited time January 2025. You will be notified via Red Cross communication channels like email, web, or SMS when the Donor Rewards Store is open.
Donors must log into their Red Cross donor profile account to redeem reward. Once redeemed, a confirmation email will be sent within 5 days. A shipping confirmation email will also be sent once the physical reward item is shipped to the address provided from a donor’s online account. If item delivery is delayed, we will notify the donor via email. One (1) free American Red Cross Merchandise Item to each eligible donor, while supplies last. The Red Cross reserves the right to substitute any item offered with one of equal or greater value. Offer is subject to change without notice. Item pictured is for illustrative purposes only and may not be an exact representation of the actual item delivered. No substitutions and not transferable by presenting donor. 10. Donating Points
You also have the option to donate your points back to the Red Cross. Your donation will help the Red Cross continue to deliver its mission to patients across the country. Your donation of points is not tax-deductible. Points may be donated in 100-point increments when you log into your donor profile. There is no limit to the number of points you can donate each year.
