Give blood to the Red Cross to help save the lives of patients in need.
Suburban Propane, official national sponsor of the American Red Cross 100 Days of Summer campaign, encourages you to #ChooseYourDay to help save lives this summer by donating blood or platelets!
Blood and platelet donations often decline during the summer, which can make it difficult to meet the needs of patients who depend on lifesaving transfusions. We invite you to help change that by supporting the Red Cross mission of preventing and alleviating human suffering in the face of emergencies. We hope you will make an appointment to give blood or platelets, sign up your department or location to volunteer at Red Cross blood drives, learn more about sponsoring a drive, and help share stories about yourself or colleagues who have been directly impacted by the lifesaving mission of the Red Cross.
Suburban Propane and the Red Cross are also offering additional ways you can get involved in your communities by volunteering for the Home Fire Campaign, supporting our military members and veterans, helping your families to get prepared, and supporting disaster relief efforts.

A Message from Suburban Propane Leadership
Suburban Propane has been a proud sponsor of the American Red Cross since 2012. We participate in a robust national partnership to increase awareness about the need for blood and engage the help of our valued employees, customers and neighbors to help meet the needs of patients and hospitals throughout the United States. Our company is part of the fabric of the communities we serve, and your tireless support of the Red Cross allows us to give back in a meaningful way.
We are pleased to announce that we are expanding our partnership this year and are providing more opportunities for you, our generous employees, to support the humanitarian needs of the communities where we live and serve. In conjunction with the Red Cross, we have developed this custom website to provide you with information on ways you may consider getting involved. Some of the exciting volunteer opportunities include:
Biomedical Services
The Red Cross is the largest single supplier of blood and blood products in the United States and provides about 40 percent of the nation’s blood supply. We hope you will join other employees in donating blood or platelets, or support blood donations by sponsoring or volunteering at a blood drive.
Debbie Traub, a Suburban Propane employee in New Jersey, experienced the need for blood in 2014 when her 74-year-old father fell from a ladder while power-washing his home and suffered life-threatening injuries. He spent 20 days in intensive care and received many blood transfusions. Those blood products came from volunteer blood donors, like many of our employees, and helped to save his life.
Disaster Services
The Red Cross responds to approximately 70,000 disasters in the United States every year, ranging from home fires that affect a single family to hurricanes that affect tens of thousands to earthquakes that can impact millions. When the Red Cross responds to large-scale disasters, Suburban Propane employees are often responding at the very same time and intimately understand how much assistance is needed to help our communities and neighbors get on the road to recovery. We have formed a new microsite so Suburban Propane employees and customers can make a financial contribution to ensure the Red Cross can spring into immediate response during disasters and meet emergency needs.
Please also consider participating in the Home Fire Campaign. Through this project, the Red Cross leverages volunteers to go door-to-door in some of the nation’s most at-risk neighborhoods to install smoke alarms, replace dead batteries in existing alarms and help families make escape plans. Through this important work, the Red Cross aims to reduce the number of fire deaths and injuries in the U.S. by 25 percent over a five-year period. This noble effort has saved 77 documented lives in its first year, and we would love for you to be a part of this effort to help ensure no family knows the tragedy of a home fire.
Service to the Armed Forces
Each year, the Red Cross helps more than 1.3 million military members, veterans and their families prepare for, cope with and respond to the challenges of military service. Every day, men and women answer our nation’s call to serve in the United States armed forces. These heroes and their families experience unique challenges associated with military life, as many of you know firsthand.
Suburban Propane will be making cards available for our employees and customers to sign for our heroic service members and veterans. It is a way to thank our military for their service to our country during the winter holidays. Once the cards are filled out with your heartfelt messages, the Red Cross will ensure they are distributed to members of the military and our veterans.
Preparedness, Health and Safety Services
The Red Cross is the nation’s leading provider of health and safety courses, such as CPR, first aid and lifeguard trainings. We are working with the Red Cross to provide training to our employees and empower you and your families to engage in preparedness training as well.
We are so proud of each and every one of you and the work you do that has made our company synonymous with excellence. We are so fortunate to have a caring and philanthropic workforce who strives to make a difference in the communities we serve and look forward to hearing about the meaningful impact you will make in the lives of others through this partnership with the Red Cross and thank you so very much!
A Message from Donna M. Morrissey
The American Red Cross depends on the generosity of healthy, volunteer blood and platelet donors, volunteers and corporate partners like Suburban Propane to fulfill our mission to help patients in need. It is the blood on the shelves today that helps to save lives tomorrow.
Our lives changed forever after the April 2013 terrorist attack in Boston, when two pressure cooker bombs exploded at the finish line of the Boston Marathon killing three people, including a young child, and injuring hundreds more. Many of those injured needed blood to survive. The Red Cross sent over 600 units of lifesaving blood to area hospitals for patients in need.
Days later Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority Officer Richard “Dic” Donohue was shot in the line of duty trying to apprehend those responsible for the bombings. He needed 46 units of blood to survive. Today, Dic has recovered, become a blood donor and is celebrating the birth of his second child.
I hope that you will consider giving blood this summer to ensure we are prepared to serve the needs of patients at hospitals across the country. A safe and sufficient blood supply is a community responsibility, and we thank you for your ongoing support.
Your organization is one of our most important corporate partners, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your contributions and continued support. We are very excited to expand the ways you can get involved by supporting our Disaster Services, Service to the Armed Forces, and Preparedness, Health and Safety Services. We are thrilled to include you as members of our Red Cross family and proud to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with you to meet the needs of those we serve!
With deep gratitude,
Donna
