New partnership includes several local blood drives to help stop a summer shortage
Whole Foods Market and the American Red Cross are offering nearly a dozen new chances to do something life changing and momentous this summer. The Red Cross Bloodmobile will be pulling up to several area Whole Foods Market locations until the end of August, giving shoppers the opportunity to make a difference and help keep blood on the shelves for patients in need.
Hospital patients don’t get a summer vacation, but this busy season full of activities means a lot of donors are less available to give blood. This seasonal challenge can be overcome if at least two more people above what’s expected come out to give blood at each drive this summer. Just one donation can help save up to 3 lives!
“Hosting the Red Cross Bloodmobile at our stores and regional office is just one more way that Whole Foods Market can support the communities we serve and help enable our team members and customers to do the same,” said Laura Derba, Whole Foods Market’s North Atlantic Regional President. “We are proud to partner with the American Red Cross in addressing their critical need this summer.”

How to donate blood
Simply download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) to make an appointment or for more information. All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age (16 with parental consent in some states), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
Blood donors can now save time at their next donation by using RapidPass to complete their pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire online, on the day of their donation, prior to arriving at the blood drive. To get started and learn more, visit redcrossblood.org/RapidPass and follow the instructions on the site.
